The meeting held in Alanya on October 28-29, 2000 under the title of “Stratigraphy-Paleontology Workshop I” to bring together paleontology and stratigraphy workers and discuss problems was attended more than expected and attracted more attention. For this reason, the members who organized the meeting decided to establish a “Paleontology Working Group” and to form an Executive Committee to put this group into an effective position. On April 10, 2001, the Executive Committee members chose the logo of the group in their first meeting, changed the name “Workshop” to “Workshop” by Turkishifying it, and formed an Organizing Committee and decided that the “II. Stratigraphy-Paleontology Workshop” would be held in Alanya on October 27-29, 2001.

With the devoted efforts of our paleontology and stratigraphy volunteer colleagues and the support of the Chamber of Geological Engineers, General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, Universities and various organizations, the meetings were held in the following years under the name of “Paleontology-Stratigraphy Workshop” in Akçakoca-Düzce, Eğirdir-Isparta, Ürgüp-Nevşehir, Sinop, Kumkuyu-Mersin, Çanakkale, Pamukkale-Denizli, Kemaliye-Erzincan, Adıyaman, Muğla, İzmir, Kütahya, Side, Rize, Ayvalık, Tekirdağ, Zonguldak, Alanya, Mardin, Elazığ. Our workshop, which has been continuing with international participation since 2017, has been continued online for two years during the pandemic period.

It is clear that the "Paleontology-Stratigraphy Workshops", which have been held every year since 2000, will continue to be held by future generations without losing their continuity.
